Huracan FC Tizimín México

Inclusion for autism children with football.

Project impact metric improvement target

At Huracán FC Tizimín México, our mission is to promote inclusion in football, impacting 15 families directly in the first semester of operation, so that children with autism can enhance their social skills, teach values, foster a sense of belonging, strengthen coordination abilities, and improve physical and emotional well-being. This will be achieved by integrating sports elements of football with special educational and didactic components designed for these children.

The project aims to create spaces, provide resources, and establish the necessary conditions for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to engage in football as a recreational and therapeutic activity, with supervised support from student leaders from the local CONALEP institution.

The objective is to promote their inclusion and enhance their social skills, learn values, foster a sense of belonging, strengthen motor coordination, social skills, tolerance to frustration, and improve their physical and emotional well-being.

Additionally, this project also aims to support parents and family members in coping with the immense challenges and sacrifices involved in raising and educating children with autism, as it requires a significant amount of time, money, and effort. Through this initiative, parents can connect with others facing similar circumstances, providing a platform for sharing experiences and finding a sense of release and support.

Child Case Study

Alitza is 7 years old. She is a very sociable girl who loves football, and she is our little volunteer as she helps us guide the participants of the project. She motivates them to do the routine or shows them how to do it, and she has created a special connection with each of our participants.

She has learned to regulate her emotions more as she experiences some difficult situations at home, but that hasn't limited her from spreading her joy to her peers. She is always willing to be their friend.

New Partnerships Built

A strategic partnership has been established with a government institution called "Desarrollo Integral de la Familia" (Integral Development of the Family), which is responsible for safeguarding vulnerable families, children, and individuals. They provide the funding for the salaries of the two project coaches.

CONALEP School in Yucatán provides secure facilities for the training of participants.

Enseña por México, as a sponsor through the "Somos el movimiento" (We are the movement) award, supported us in acquiring resources for the project implementation.

The Neurodevelopment Center "NDC" advises us on neurodivergence-related matters.

Words from Project Leader, Briseida

“I feel happy as I am making a small contribution to supporting neurodivergent children, but above all, because I see my son's dream of belonging to an inclusive football team come true, and what better team than the Huracanes FC. On a professional level, I am developing different skills, as I learn more from my fellow coaches in each training session. I feel proud that the young students who volunteer are developing their leadership skills. I have changed since the moment I decided to step out of my comfort zone and become an active agent of change in advocating for the rights of neurodivergent children to have the same opportunities as any other child.”
