Esteban and Owen's Unstoppable Journey
Esteban and Owen, two very energetic children from the village of San Juancito, are football enthusiasts. They never miss a Tuesday and Thursday, and they are always on the list of children who participate. They are 7 and 10 years old and are in Year 2 and Year 4 of primary school, respectively. They are football lovers 24/7 and are always the first to join any impromptu football match during or after school, with a big smile on their faces, a characteristic feature of theirs.
Among the mountains of the Serranía Abibe in Colombia, the habitat of these two little ones, they wake up at 5:00 am every day, with the rising sun, to go to school. Living so close to the school gives them time to do some household chores, such as fetching water from the stream, collecting firewood for cooking, and sometimes fetching milk from the donkey, several kilometers away from home. When they arrive at school, they have all the energy of the sun within their bodies; they are tireless beings.
In the classroom, they are known for their spontaneity in speaking and their dynamism in moving around. Their respective teachers agree in highlighting their learning abilities in the classroom, which leads to them being given additional tasks so that they do not disturb their classmates.
Every Tuesday and Thursday, they are the first to approach one of the leaders of the Huracan football school and ask if there will be practice. Their ever-present smile on their faces spreads the news, and in that moment, it's the best news they could have heard, and so it is at every practice.
During each football practice, they are the first to arrive and the last to leave. They require some patience, as they always want to have the ball at their feet, and they find warm-up and stretching exercises rather boring. Over time, they have understood the importance of warming up and preparing their bodies before playing. They enjoy every moment of it.
After finishing practice, they continue playing football, and on most occasions, they resume household chores until the sun sets, indicating that the day has come to an end, and it's time to go to sleep, to start again tomorrow.
El Inquebrantable Camino de Esteban y Owen
Esteban y Owen, dos niños llenos de energía de la vereda San Juancito, son apasionados por el fútbol. Todos los martes y jueves, sin falta, están en la lista de niños que practican este deporte. Con 7 y 10 años de edad, cursan segundo y cuarto grado de primaria, respectivamente. Su amor por el fútbol es constante, y siempre están ansiosos por participar en cualquier picadito que se organice durante o después del colegio, siempre con una gran sonrisa en sus rostros, una característica que los identifica.
En las montañas de la Serranía Abibe, en Colombia, el hogar de estos pequeños, cada día se levantan a las 5:00 a.m., al amanecer, para ir a la escuela. Al vivir tan cerca de la institución educativa, tienen tiempo para realizar algunas tareas domésticas, como buscar agua en la quebrada, leña para cocinar e, incluso, en ocasiones, buscar leche del burro a varios kilómetros de distancia de su casa. Al llegar al colegio, están llenos de energía, como si tuvieran todo el sol dentro de sus cuerpos, son seres incansables.
Dentro del salón de clases, se destacan por su espontaneidad al hablar y su dinamismo al moverse. Sus profesores coinciden en resaltar sus habilidades para el aprendizaje, lo que lleva a que se les asignen actividades adicionales para que no molesten a sus compañeros.
Cada martes y jueves, son los primeros en acercarse a uno de los líderes de la escuela de fútbol Huracan, preguntándoles si habrá práctica. Su sonrisa siempre presente en sus rostros, se encarga de difundir la noticia. Para ellos, es la mejor noticia que pueden escuchar, y así lo sienten en cada práctica.
En cada sesión de entrenamiento, Esteban y Owen son los primeros en llegar y los últimos en irse. A veces, hay que tener paciencia con ellos, ya que siempre quieren tener el balón en los pies, y consideran los ejercicios de calentamiento y estiramiento como aburridos. Con el tiempo, han comprendido la importancia de calentar y preparar su cuerpo antes de jugar. Disfrutan cada momento en el campo.
Después de terminar con las prácticas de fútbol, continúan jugando hasta que la luz del sol se oculta, indicando que el día ha llegado a su fin y es hora de irse a dormir. Mañana será un nuevo día, lleno de energía y pasión por el fútbol, y están ansiosos por volver a vivirlo.
