Huracan FC Brambletye – 2020/21 Season Fundraising Champions!

At the beginning of the 2020/21 academic year, The Huracan Foundation was delighted to be selected as Brambletye School’s charity partner, and we hoped it would be a record year for both of us - with over £57,000 now raised, we can safely say all fundraising records were completely smashed!

Henry May, was a pupil at Brambletye, making this a very special partnership. It was here that Henry fell in love with football and was the captain of the 2nd XI – an unbeaten team that season!

At the beginning of the partnership Henry challenged the Brambletye community to be creative, think outside the box and implement new fundraising activities during this unprecedented year and everyone certainly rose to that challenge, spearheaded by David Holden, Head of Art and Design/Technology and Henry’s former football coach.

The fundraising events completed were broad, varied, fun, exciting and every Brambletye pupil made a contribution, either individually or as part of a team. As well as a number of incredibly generous personal donations, some of the activities included:

  • A Bob a Job Fundraiser, where the children did small jobs and chores at home for a fee

  • Four girls took part in the Hever Triathlon

  • David Holden organised a Marathon Art Lesson that ran for 18 hours over three days, covering a full term’s work

  • Children made bracelets and other crafts to sell at Christmas

  • A Hot Air Balloon Competition (in recognition of the Huracan balloon logo), where the children designed, made and launched their own balloons

  • Six children set up their own Just Giving Fundraisers during the January and February lockdown and between them raised nearly £5,000 by running, cycling, baking cakes and practicising yoga

  • 40 of the staff and parents each ran 100k in May, raising an incredible £10,600

  • David Holden organised an auction for a number of his art pieces as well as a School Art Auction in July

  • Children were sponsored to take part in Christmas Jumper Day and Home Clothes Day

  • Children took part in the Everest Challenge over the Christmas holidays, walking the height of Everest!

  • Parents also very kindly donated old laptops to the children of Huracan FC Northala (at the Alec Reed Academy in Northolt) who did not have access to one during the lockdown

Have a quick watch of a few of Brambletye School’s favourite moments from the year.

We would like to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU to all the staff, parents and children involved in raising this huge amount. We are looking forward now to selecting project leaders to work with next year, knowing that we have this wonderful support. And by giving the Foundation this level of financial security, we are also in a position to be able to provide follow-on support to a number of our current Project Leaders, ensuring the longer term sustainability of their projects.

It has been an absolute pleasure for us working with the entire Brambletye community - the children have shown incredible kindness throughout and we couldn’t be more grateful to all of the staff and parents who have helped make this happen in what we all know has been a very challenging year.
